Canadians tackle Super Bowl LVIII
Half (52%) of Canadians say they’ll be tuning in one way or another to the Super Bowl LVIII football game this coming Sunday in Las Vegas between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49rs.
Simply protein
Most (63%) Canadians are craving more simplicity in their lives, including their snacking habits: over half (54%) agree that when they’re in a rush and need a snack they tend to reach for the most convenient option, but wish they were making healthier choices.
February 2024 Canadian Maru Household Index
The February 2024 Canadian MHOI holds at 86 (negative/pessimistic) but has some underlying data that is the worst since tracking began in July 2020.
Paper anniversary challenges
By the time married or common law/civil partnership couples have their first year “paper anniversary”, just over three quarters (77%) say they’ve faced numerous challenges topped by managing money, adjusting to living together, and communications.
Making the grade with finances
While most Canadians gave themselves excellent grades on managing their finances in 2023, younger Canadians assigned themselves the lowest grades but were also most likely to admit they need more help.
January 2024 Work Happiness Index
Workers in Canada are happy (6.7/10) with their current employer, with only one in ten (9%) actively pursuing a move to a different company within their industry this year.
Groundhog day all over again
Few say the 2024 Groundhog Day predictions will be accurate as a vast majority (84%) want and are optimistic (63%) for an early spring.
Hold on hiking rates
While Canadians may be handling interest rates better than they did last year at this time, the vast majority don’t want another hike from the Bank of Canada any time soon.

The January 2024 Canadian MHOI is at 86 (negative/pessimistic) up two points from last month at 84, returning to where the same sentiment was during the summer (June/July/August) of 2023.
2024 finances and priorities
As Canadians greet the new year, most are positive about their own finances, but there’s an undercurrent of concern about a possible recession, job security, and the ability to plan in uncertain times.
